Every Wednesday some of our exciting members take a hike of 3-6 miles on one of the many trails in CNY (including the North Country National Scenic Trail and the Finger Lakes Trail!). The first Wednesday of each month during Spring, Summer and Fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The Wednesday hikers welcome new participants. Please bring lunch and sufficient water. SUNY ESF has asked us to reroute our Skyline Trail south of Pond 1. Come help build this new section of trail in Heiberg State Forest, off Kettlebail Rd. No experience necessary, but there will be some heavy lifting and tool use. The chapter furnishes all necessary tools. Bring a pair of work gloves, water, lunch, and wear appropriate clothing. Enjoy this moderately strenuous hike on the Main Trail at Highland Forest. This loop trail of approx. 8.8 mi. includes an elevation gain of ~1,200′. We will wind through spruce, pine and hardwood forests with a few easy stream crossings. There can be muddy sections during wet weather so wear sturdy hiking boots, gaiters and bring trekking poles (optional). Bring snacks, lunch and water. Please RSVP leader by 8/28.

We will be doing trail maintenance on a section of the Finger Lakes Trail and the North Country Trail on FLT O-1, O-2, M-21, M-22. Our chapter currently maintains 72 miles on the FLT and lean-tos, 57 miles are concurrent with the NCT. No special skills are required just a genuine desire to ensure that our trails are cleared and blazed for all to enjoy. Please bring a pair of work gloves, personal hand tools, water, lunch, insect repellent, and wear appropriate clothing.

The Baker Woods Nature Preserve in Natural Bridge, NY is part of the Indian River Lakes Conservancy in Lewis County. We will explore the 4 miles of trails to view wetlands, a beaver flow and the red pine plantation which is transitioning into native forests. The trails are fairly level. Parking on Factory Rd. is available for 3 to 4 vehicles. We will carpool from the meeting place. Contact leader by Sept 3 for meeting time and to confirm details.

Come out and join us for our annual fall picnic. We will meet at 10:00 am at Land O’Pines and then carpool (a short drive) for a walk at Forest Park in Camden. Lunch is at 1:00 pm – meat and beverages will be provided – bring a dish to pass. Take Mulholland Rd. out of North Bay – R. on Preston Hill. Look for ADK signs just past Preston Hill Gravel.

ADK Fall Outing – Upper Saranac Lake

Northwoods Chapter Host
The 2026 ADK Mountain Club Fall Outing, hosted by the North Woods Chapter, will be held Friday, September 18 – Sunday, September 20 at the Saranac Village Young Life Camp. This premier Adirondack retreat facility is gently nestled on the shores of beautiful Upper Saranac Lake, and is in the heart of prime paddling, hiking, and biking country. In addition to a long list guided outings available to all registrants, evenings will be filled with live music and dancing.
For longtime ADK members, new members, and anyone who loves recreating in the Adirondacks, this weekend retreat is an opportunity to meet and explore wild places with fellow outdoor enthusiasts. All ages are welcome.

The Stone House Preserve features a 100 yr. old stone house which was home to 4 generations of the Norton family. The woodland trails feature fresh water wetlands, a beaver pond, and mature forest habitats. Mostly even trails with some hilly areas. The elevation is under 500 feet. Social Hour: 2:00-3:00 pm. This hour will give us time to relax and connect with friends. Drinks and hors-d’oeuvres will be provided by the club.
Speaker: 3:00-4:00 p.m. We are delighted to have Harold Kyle, Trails Chair for ADK-ON, share his family’s summer trip with us. The Alpa Adria Trail is a 43-stage, 466-mile-long hiking trail that opened in the southeastern Alps in 2012. The trail connects the Großglockner glacier in Austria with the Adriatic Sea, meandering through Slovenia and Italy along the way. Harold Kyle (and family) hiked the middle third of the Alpa Adria Trail this summer and will share their experiences hiking inn-to-inn and exploring Slovenia. Along the way they found WWI fortifications, mountaintop monasteries, alpine huts, and deep karst caves. The quieter side of the Alps had fewer hikers but still offered spectacular scenery and fascinating landmarks.
Meeting: 4:00-5:00 followed by our Potluck Dinner. Please bring a dish to pass and your own place setting. Reservations are required by Wednesday, November 4. Please check our website at www.adk-on.org for updates and to access the link for reservations.
