Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike of 3-6 miles on one of the many trails in CNY (including the North Country National Scenic Trail and the Finger Lakes Trail!).  The first Wednesday of each month during Spring, Summer and Fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The Wednesday hikers welcome new participants. Carpooling is the norm. Please bring lunch and sufficient water. Erie Canal Evening Bike/Walk

Seneca River Evening Kayak

Meet for BYO picnic supper at Lion’s Park. Afterward (6:30-6:45 or so) will start the walk.  The village has been building a riverwalk for the past several years.  The first section is mostly in the woods out to the end of Marble Island (3 miles).  The next section continues on streets past the lock and back to the trail along the river.  Eventually, this will continue and connect to Onondaga Lake trails.

 

 

TNC Timberbanks Evening Hike

From the Cascade Lake parking area located in our Chapter’s adopted Pigeon Lake Wilderness, we will backpack in and set up camp at the meadow campsite on the north shore of the lake near a sandy beach surrounded by White pines. We plan to hike the loop trail around Cascade Lake including diverse forests and a cool waterfall near the lake’s inlet. Pigeon Lake Work Hike

We’ll do a loop and work the beautiful trails of the chapter’s adopted Pigeon Lake Wilderness Area from Big Moose Rd. and touch Queer Lake, a great lunch spot.  This is an all-day, early start event, so bring plenty of water and food.  Pack rain gear, insect spray, work gloves and hand tools if you have them (or we’ll provide.)  Work a little or work a lot, we always have fun and enjoy the views.

Watch Hill Hike

While Watch Hill has been around for some time, the DEC recently developed a new trailhead. The trail to Watch Hill is short with some steep sections leading to a ridgeline with spectacular views of Snowy Mountain and Indian Lake.  There is a steep spur trail that leads to the shore of Indian Lake and a nice beach.  If the group is up for more hiking we can stop and climb Echo Cliffs near Piseco Lake on the way home (1 mile round trip).

We will visit Death Falls, Upper Pond in ‘our’ Pigeon Lake Wilderness of 51,000 acres, Moss Lake and the majestic Cathedral Pines. Slow paced.

We will hike this year from Carson Rd to West River Rd for easier car spotting. We will lunch at Woodchuck Hollow Lean-to.  There are some hills in this woodland, but the Tuller Hill forest will provide us coolness and shade.  Bring water, snacks/lunch.
