Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike of 3-6 miles on one of the many trails in CNY (including the North Country National Scenic Trail and the Finger Lakes Trail!).  The first Wednesday of each month during Spring, Summer and Fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The Wednesday hikers welcome new participants. Carpooling is the norm. Please bring lunch and sufficient water. Please call or email the leaders if you have Wednesday free and would like to hike.

Hope for sunshine this year to check out the spring time flowers at two hiking gems. O.D. Von Engeln Preserve includes a Bog Loop and Esker Trail…we could see flowers such as trillium, jack in the pulpit, marsh marigolds. We will then take a 5 minute drive over to Lime Hollow Nature Center and hike several of these maintained trails.

This is a 70th birthday party for me by me.  Syracuse people will meet at Gander Mountain at 9:00.  The leader will meet the group at the DEC boat launch on Cottage Hill Road in Redwood at 10:30. (The DEC ramp is one mile from State Rt 37 in Redwood)  From there we will walk to my camp on the lake (approx. 1 mile).  We will have a picnic on the deck in the sun.  Bring a dish to share.  Dessert will be provided by the “birthday boy”.  Kayaks are also provided by Jerry.

No special skills are required, just a genuine desire to ensure that trails are kept clear and marked for all hikers to enjoy. Bring a pair of work gloves, a lunch, water, and wear appropriate clothing. The Chapter furnishes all necessary tools. Will be cancelled in case of severely adverse weather conditions. .

We’ll hike in from Big Moose/Higby Rd., inspect the trail to Carpenter Brook and Chub Lake, and do any necessary clearing along the way.  Work a little or work a lot and enjoy the hike and the beautiful views over creeks and ponds along the way.  This is an early start, out all day event, so bring plenty of water and food.  Pack rain gear, work gloves, and hand tools if you have them or we’ll provide.

We’ll take a walk through the woods and meadows and along the pebble beach and up onto the bluffs at this Cayuga County Nature Center overlooking Lake Ontario. There’s a heron rookery and lots of bird life that should be very active and the spring wild flowers should be in bloom. Bring lunch and water. There can be a cool breeze off the lake.

Come join us in exploring a wetland wildlife sanctuary in one of the larger land-locked bays adjacent to Lake Ontario. We will paddle a flat, back water route at a leisurely pace with a stop on land for a stretch, lunch and optional beach stroll for treasures. Bring lunch and water. PFD required.

Join us for a leisurely ride on the bike/walking trail along Onondaga Lake starting at the parking lot near the Salt Museum to the Lakeview Amphitheater and back.  This is mostly a flat ride with views of the lake and a nice forested section on the lake’s west side. After our ride there are numerous places to stop for lunch in Liverpool. Bring water or beverage and a snack.  Helmets are required.  Leader will cancel if there is inclement

We will plan to hike over the highest point on the FLT (Millbrook Ridge) and take a short side trail to the fire tower if you wish.  Spot cars.  The fire tower is the 17th highest point in the Catskills and Millbrook Ridge is the 36th highest.  For shorter, more level option (4.6 miles), call leader.

Hike the unique Alvar landscape at this Nature Conservancy property in northern New York. There are many unusual flowers that bloom in this area, the orchids and prairie smoke should be in bloom. We will hike slowly with many opportunities to explore the area and take pictures.

The YMs are hosting an overnight backpacking trip. We will split the hiking into two days of roughly 8 miles the first day and 10 miles the second. We will hike in from the trailhead for the French Louie Trail and follow the French Louie Trail to one of the West Lake Lean-Tos and the junction with the NPT. On the second day we will follow the NPT to the Cedar Lakes Trail and back to the French Louie Trail. Group size for this trip is limited to 8 people so if you are interested in attending you must contact the leader to reserve your spot. Some backpack experience is required to attend.
