Trail Stewardship
The Onondaga Chapter demonstrates its commitment to ADK's mission of education, recreation, environmental conservation and advocacy by active participation in the following:

Finger Lakes Trail (FLT)
Since 1962 ADK-ON has scouted and constructed 100 miles of this 850-mile foot trail (Rt. 392 near Virgil Mountain to Rt. 26 near S. Otselic).Chapter sponsorship spans four counties (Cortland, Onondaga, Madison and Chenango). The Chapter currently maintains ~ 98 miles of FLT, maintains 3 lean-tos (Woodchuck Hollow, Paradise Garden, Hemlock Glen), coordinates 60+ trail stewards, work trips, landowner negotiations and invests 2000+ person hours annually on existing and new trail.

North Country National Scenic Trail (NCT)
Seventy-seven (77) miles of our section of FLT are currently certified as NCT (4600 mi. when completed from N. Dakota to Adirondacks). There are ~380 mi. of NCT within NYS from Penn. State line near Allegheny National Forest.

Onondaga Trail (a branch of the FLT and NCT)
ADK-ON has scouted, designed, constructed and currently maintains ~34 mi. (Stony Brook Rd. to New Woodstock via Morgan Hill State Forest and Highland Forest). There are about five (5) more miles that need to be constructed to complete the NCT/FLT extension project to the to Tioughnioga Wildlife Management Area at the Link Trail junction.

Skyline Trail
We have flagged and partially constructed, 4 mi. (ESF’s Heiberg Forest to east slope of Labrador Hollow Unique Area and Onondaga Trail. In several years a connector from Labrador Hollow to Tinker falls and the FLT/NCT Onondaga Trail will be completed.

Pigeon Lake Wilderness Area
Adopted by the Chapter in 1998, these 50,100 acres are located in the Adirondacks near Old Forge and Eagle Bay, and bounded by Big Moose Lake, Raquette Lake, Fulton Chain and Stillwater Reservoir. Our responsibilities include studying the natural history, recreational opportunities and trail conditions and being an advocate for protecting its wilderness character. We often do a volunteer project annually.

West Mountain Trail
ADK-ON maintains a 5-mi. foot trail within the Pigeon Lake Wilderness Area that ascends to the 2902-Ft. summit of West Mt. from Upper Brown Tract Pond.
